Observation Head Project - This advanced device is specifically designed for precise control of the head. It consists of three PCBs - Main Base, Motor, and AHRS Camera. The system offers comprehensive control and stabilization in three axes, while also providing high image resolution and secure, reliable data transmission.
Key features of this innovative solution:
Main Base Board
The Main Base board is responsible for the movement of the head in three axes. Equipped with the main microcontrollers, it supports the CSI camera interface as well as interfaces such as USB, I2C, RS485, SPI, and UART. Additionally, it includes sound and optical signaling using LED diodes and a buzzer. Enriched with an IMU, it collects data from other PCBs and forwards it to Jetson, providing comprehensive motion control.
Motor Board
The Motor board encompasses a microcontroller and a motor with a driver with a magnetic encoder. It also integrates motor current measurement functions, ensuring optimal performance and safety during head movement.
AHRS Board
The AHRS board contains a microcontroller, RS485 and USB interfaces, external memory, as well as two IMU sensors and a magnetometer. Thanks to these components, our system provides precise data collection, enabling stable operation of the gimbal head.
What challenge did we face?
We struggled with issues arising from the small PCB area and the dense arrangement of components. We decided to use multilayer boards with elements on both sides of the board, which allowed us to optimize space and avoid conflicts between components. Additionally, we spent time precisely locating incorrectly mounted quartz crystals, eliminating any potential frequency issues. Our approach included close monitoring of component assembly.
What result did we achieve?
Thanks to our efforts, we managed to integrate all the design assumptions. Our team developed a functional device for controlling gimbal operation, encompassing three main boards controlling brushless motors. This innovative solution provides not only precision but also the reliability of the device.
